BioWare has officially announced that a playable demo of Mass Effect 3 will be released in January 2012, prior to the game's launch itself. The demo will contain both Single Player and Multiplayer content, and players who purchase Battlefield 3 will gain early access to the Multiplayer portion of the demo.
Additional, no purchase necessary options for gaining early Multiplayer demo access will be revealed in the coming months.
