The Little Sony Console that Could

On November 11th, 2006, Sony released it's PlayStation 3 console (Nov. 17th in North America), and it's been struggling ever since. No matter what you think about the PlayStation 3, the fact remains that it is in third place in this generation of console sales, and has generally not been regarded very favouribly, often sited as being over-priced with no solid exclusives to justify its cost. Cross platform titles always sell better on the Xbox 360, and console sales wise, it's getting anialated by the Wii.

This coming Thursday, that may actually change, as we'll see the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. As of this typing, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the first exclusive PlayStation 3 title to breach an overall critical score of 90%, presently sitting with a 95% score and as the second highest rated title on the platform (according to Metacritic here).

With only 4 other titles rated over 90%, all of which are available on the Xbox 360, Sony really, really needs this one. It's still not a first party title, but it is presently an exclusive none-the-less.

So I tip my hat to you, Sony. After one year and seven months, you might actually have a game that will allow your customers to use their PlayStation 3's for something other than a glorified paper weight.
