A few days ago, rumours were going around that Sony might bring about a price cut to its overpriced PlayStation 3 60 GB console, presently the only model available on the retail market.
According to ActionTrip, however, Sony's very own president was very quick to squash those rumours.
Well looks like Sony has pulled a 180 on us (or would that really be a 360), and they are indeed cutting the price of the PlayStation 3 60 GB by about $100.00 (to $549.99), and in August, they'll be releasing an 80 GB version of the console that will come bundled with MotorStorm, which will retail at the former price of the 60 GB version ($659.99). According to TeamXbox, the price cut is presently a North American exclusive, and it takes effect immediately (though Best Buy still has the original price up as of this posting).

You can still pick up an Xbox 360 Elite, which has a bundled HDMI cable, 1080p support, and a 120 GB HDD, all for the cost of the PlayStation 3 60 GB console now, and in my opinion, the PlayStation 3's exclusive titles still aren't strong enough to warrant the purchase.
If Microsoft's smart, they'll also announce a price cut, dropping the price of the Xbox 360 Core console and the Xbox 360 Pro console by $100.00 each, and the Xbox 360 Elite by $50.00, but hey, what do I know?
